One of my favorite tools out of all that I have built, projector, has been updated to version 2.4! The worst part about v2.3 was how much time reprojector took to do it’s thing and the inspector windows popping up getting in the way. The best solution I could find at the time (about 1 year ago) was using GUI scripting which was a ridiculous hack that basically just presses the correct buttons quickly. 2.4 uses and includes the command line utility “seticon” written by Sveinbjorn Thordarson which changes icons very seamlessly. This update also allows changing multiple folder icons with projector and reprojector simultaneously. So if you have multiple folders you would like to add project folders to, drag them onto projector. If you have folders that all need the same icon, drag them all onto reprojector.

projector_v2.4 download page. . .

Log:
v2.4 – reprojector reworked to change icons instantly, change multiple folder icons at the same time, error checking
v2.3 – added auto-checking for Application Support folder, allows user to add their own folders/icons, design icon
v2.2 – added Premiere Pro and Shake icons
v2.0 – released! (new workflow including reprojector)
v1.0 – released!

15 frames per second. That’s 900 a minute. Your brain doesn’t like it, not at all, it has been trained to need 9 frames more per second to be happy.

What does it take to make 15fps something you can enjoy? color grade? camera movement? composition? vfx? music? location? Can interesting and beautiful imagery be made with cameras meant only for utility?

Let’s find out shall we:

Just like Buster Moody mentioned on his blog we are going to be doing a little song trading. (Starting fairly simple projects in Logic 8, with just basic structure and a little bit of melody, and giving it to another person to do whatever they want with.)

This should be a fantastic way to learn as it is fun to toy with other people’s work and it is also great motivation to keep producing.

Here is the original project I was given:

Some fine cutlery used to slice up the opening sample, seemed like it would be a great basis for a simple melody.

Gong Song – Take 1 (Buster Moody version)

Gong Song – Take 1 (Buster Moody version).mp3

Here is my version after a few hours of tinkering:

I was really interested in the sample he used so I just made some slight adjustments to it, mainly using one as the driver for the melody, and developed my own beat. Still have a lot more planned for this, but we are trying to maintain a quick turn around time.

Gong Song – Take 1 (andrewアンドル version):

Gong Song – Take 1 (andrewアンドル version).mp3

We are learning here, so feel to leave a comment/feedback on anything. And if you would like to join in, definitely let one of us know.

warm up project for Senior Year at KCAI. my first return to backlit sand animation since Sophomore year. There are many things I would like to tidy up, as well as a few more layers I would like to add, but it was a fantastic project. Spent right around 24 hours for this one once I started animating.

This version is at 24 frames per second so there are a few oddities, some jittering and things, but I kind of like it, it maybe works a little better at 12fps though as most stop motion does, so I may upload that one as well.

This was also my first test with Dragon Stop Motion, a fantastic bit of software developed by Jamie and Dyami Caliri. Jamie is probably most well-known for his United Airlines paper cut-out stop motion commercials. This is without a doubt the best stop motion software out there, I highly recommend everyone check it out. I am planning on testing it as a pencil test system very soon as well.

The music is “Snow Tip Cap Mountain” by The Octopus Project, from their album, Hello Avalanche:

[ITUNES]

You may see more of this one in the future…

look for a very interesting and very moving robot that doesn’t know any better…

this is only the beginning folks, here is a quick leg rig test setup, don’t mind the simple geometry, of course it will be much crazier than that:

It’s great to be able to change your volume and brightness and whatever on the fly with your fn keys. It’s not so great when working in programs like Maya and After Effects, Nuke, or Shake where you really need those keys to act as normal fn keys, to change menu sets, and other things.

That is what “fn” is for. It simply Toggles “Use all F1, F2, etc. keys as standard function keys” in Keyboard preferences.

This is how it works:

fn1.1 in action

I like to keep it in my dock or finder toolbar so whenever I need to switch that preference I can do it quickly.
