Ekahwerdna back to sampling and what have you, a quick sample from a track currently in progress. From what I hear the hunt is on for some amazing samples, in fact a site may even be in the works. Find a sample, post a track, let others post tracks, listen, enjoy, should be a simple formula, hope it works out soon. Trying to stay rational.

Oh, and The Roots are the freaking house band, you know all of that normal house band music you always hear on every show? Not here folks.

An oldie but the. . .best. .ever. A bit of a supergroup with Del tha Funkee Homosapien on the mic, Dan the Automator and Kid Koala producing, and some incredible names featured on some tracks. (Damon motha fucking Albarn!) This is one that I have listened to for years without realizing what I was really listening too oddly enough, as this album is full of classics. (Positive Contact has made its way around the mediosphere) I had never actually put it together that this stuff may actually be part of an album, and I definitely had know idea that they had done some tracks with Damon Albarn. Time Keeps on Slipping (feat. Albarn), Virus, 3030 (title track), and Mastermind may easily go down on the list I compile right before I die of Songs of Most Good Listening Properties:

Something about this album is just special, in my mind at least, Del spitting about the weird ass future, technology, with Automator and Koala making a perfect blend of strange, eerie, and truly unique beats to reflect Del’s unmistakable rising and falling style. We are talking scratching over orchestra’s, theramin’s, and very interesting samples, just enjoy the damn songs. And as far as the lyrical content goes, this is quite easily the best of Del. I love it when a group or mc sits down and develops a true theme for an album (no money, rims, etc. aren’t really themes) that is actually interesting. I am sorry Kanye, but as interesting and glorious your life may be, it doesn’t have anything on the year 3030.

What is the “and hope!” about? Well rumor has it that these fellars are busy working on a 2nd installment entitled Deltron Event II. Take your time, and bring another group of amazing friends.

Goes to show what is possible with a fairly basic and really crazy idea, some fine tuned editing skills, and some nice looking animation. Something about this I just really like, I have been a big fan of Miho Hatori for a long time, something about this type of music combined with her voice is just magical.

He has been responsible for many great things in my lifetime, and I am just now learning about it, what a chump I am. If you have the internet chops, make sure to check out the Last Century Modern album. And let me know if you discover anything else. Not a lot out there from the normal music vendors, so I may try to do a little digging for more.

You already know who The Roots are, if you don’t, you might want to start listening to some better music. Luckily they have made it very easy for you with Home Grown!

I highly recommend checking out any of their albums in full. Do You Want More?!!!??!, Things Fall Apart, Phrenology, and The Tipping Point are my favorites, but The Roots are kind of special in that they have an endless list of incredible tracks.

This should be a fantastic way to learn as it is fun to toy with other people’s work and it is also great motivation to keep producing.

Here is my version after a few hours of tinkering:

I was really interested in the sample he used so I just made some slight adjustments to it, mainly using one as the driver for the melody, and developed my own beat. Still have a lot more planned for this, but we are trying to maintain a quick turn around time.

Pretty far behind on this one, from 1999 and 2004, but who cares about time really? I would be surprised if Busta Bust hasn’t already had this stuff for years and years.

A collaboration between Dan the Automator and Prince Paul of De La Soul fame (producer). Plus a smorgasbord of other folks: Company Flow, DJ Shadow, DJ Quest, Del tha Funkee Homosapien, Miho Hatori, and many more. This is one of the best collections I have heard in a long time.

You may have already heard some of it as well! So you don’t have to feel like a total newb! or noob, or nooblet, or nooblesaurus rex, or noobletron, and so on. . . the song “The Projects” (feat. Dave of De La Soul and Del the Funkee Homosapien) was featured in Ocean’s Eleven (the club scene where Rusty (Brad Pitt) is toying with the bar tenders inability to hear anything).

Some highlights for me include the song mentioned above, as well as “The Truth” and all of the little filler that takes ridiculous clips from an episode of the Chris Elliott sitcom Get a Life entitled “The Prettiest Week of My Life.”
